However, the horses are ridden by most visitors to the ranch. What a nice day it makes on the ranch to ride down to the Red River, thinking about the olden days and how horses were the only means of transportation. One can let their imagination run wild thinking about John Wayne and the movie, Red River. As you ride along, let your eyes scan the ground for arrow heads left here by the Indians when they camped here many years ago.
Red River County had few paved or graveled roads until a few years ago. The dirt roads made winter transport on the roads nearly impossible. For this reason, courts were only in session during the summer months when the roads were passable.
